I bought the wiring kit with pushbutton handlebar switch for my Star 1300. Routed and snaked the power wires under the tank and installed the relay under the seat, next to the battery. Wired the relay trigger wire to the headlamp power wire, so the auxiliary lights would come on after the bike starts. I run them day and night and have them adjusted to spread the low beam angle further so the immediate road ahead is better illuminated at night. For day time running, I always run with the high beams on with the auxiliaries. No one can say they DON'T see me coming! The lights ground to the crash bars. Installation took me around two hours, since I am old and slow. Of course all connections and splices are soldered and covered with heat shrink. These lights exceeded my expectations and are highly recommended.
had to modify the lights to mount where I wanted on my sportster engine guard. I needed to mount the lights on the upright of the guard rather than the top or bottom of the top tube (my engine guard isn't as wide as a dresser) The halogen element need to be rotated 90 degrees to allow the light beam to be horizontal rather than vertical. In order for the element to fit in the housing approx. 1/8" of the head of the mounting bolt had to be ground off to allow the element to fit properly in the housing. No changes are needed to the index mark. Also as my engine guard is powder coated rather than chrome plan on grounding the lights with the ground wire the switch kit provides rather than a chassis ground.
These are nice lights, but the instructions are misleading. It states these can be mounted anyway you want. That is correct, but the bulbs can't be rotated. I mounted these on the vertical portion of my engine guards and the light beam was vertical. I was able to change the bolts to a carriage bolts and get enough clearance to rotate the bulb.
Very pleased with these Kuryakyn lights, they looked like they were styled to go with my Yamaha Roadliner. They provide good additional light at night or early morning and make my ride more visible to four wheeled traffic.
