Great helmet for the value
This is a great helmet for the price. I got it on sale for $97 and the quality is excellent for this price point. The visor works nicely and is easily detachable, the finish on the helmet is good. The venting seems to work reasonably well (although I haven't tried it in really hot weather yet). The padding and fit are good, although with a few issues described later. The helmet kind of has a "space man" look to it. I bought the large size and it seemed overly bulbous and looked a little funny on my head (compared to my old Bieffe helmet). I'm 6'2" 190lbs so proportionally I'm not a small person. But it's not too bad, especially considering I kinda have a big head anyway (but my girlfriend's medium helmet looks the same way on her). The medium and large seem to have the same shell size. The XL shell is larger than the Large.

As far as the fit is concerned, the fit was odd. I tried on medium, definitely too small. Large seemed roomy and fit pretty good, but the cheek pads seemed a little loose (just slightly). So I tried on the XL and it seemed like it fit kinda snug. The crown of the head felt about the same as the large (a little more cushy), but the cheek pads were curiously much snugger than the Large. In other words the XL was snugger on my face and head than the large. I took the face pads out of the XL and tried to install them into the Large, but they wouldn't quite snap into place just right (slightly off). The medium face pads out of the mediums were thicker than the ones on my large and they made my large fit perfectly (and they snapped perfectly into place). So I dunno, if you're like me you might be better off with medium helmet cheek pads installed in your large helmet. But then helmet fitting is a very personal thing, so try it out for yourself before committing either way.

The helmet is just so-so with wind noise, the rkt 101 doesn't provide stellar performance there. I hear a fair amount of wind noise, even moreso than my old Bieffe helmet. Maybe the thicker cheek pads will help dampen it out? And the breath deflector seems like a good idea, but in practice it hasn't worked for me. I was riding on a chilly day recently and the shield got all fogged up every time I stopped at a light. Once I got moving it cleared up quickly though. Will probably put some fog-x on the shield soon to keep it from happening again. Another thing is that I swear the breath deflector may be acting as a sort of air scoop that directs road debris up into my eyes. Me and my girlfriend have both gotten little specks of dirt blown into our eyes wearing these helmets. And if you look at the design of the breath deflector, it looks like it might actually direct some of the turbulent air directly up towards your eyes. Cant be sure about that yet, but it's a suspicion at this point. The breath deflector can be snapped out in a second, so it's not a show stopper either way.

I also wish the helmet had a chin strap made of thicker material. The thin one used on this helmet seems to get twisted around and discombobulated more easily when I try to thread it through the steel loops than the thicker straps of the old style helmets. My old Bieffe helmet had a metal latch on the chinstrap with a button to release it. It was a nice feature and I miss it on this helmet. Especially when I get off the bike and after removing my helmet I have to tediously thread the strap back through the steel loops so I'll have a secure carrying handle. The Bieffe's latching mechanism made it an instant snap and go affair every time before, so I miss that.

Last nit pick is I'm not happy about the graphics that were available for the helmet. All I wanted was the most basic solid color scheme, with a color that's highly visible. But the most simple version they had was a red one with a big cheesy "ROCKET" decal down both sides. Sorry, but it seems nearly all helmets nowadays are styled by teenage boys, and in some cases even prepubescent boys. How about just ONE version of the 101 made in simple monochrome highly visible colors for us adults and let the consumer decide if they want a "whoa dude, here comes the ROCKET!" sticker on the sides? Sheesh.

Otherwise the helmet is a great value for what I paid for it. Especially considering it is also a Snell approved helmet, although from what I've been reading the Snell rating might be a bit overblown. Still nice to have it though. Overall I recommend this helmet, can't go wrong with the price.

High Quality, Low Price
I bought a RKT-101 about two months ago. I feel the quality is on par with the Shoei helmets I've worn. Size Medium fits my oval-shaped head perfectly, and the interior fabric is very comfortable. With the chin and top front vents open, it flows more air than any other helmet I've owned, so it's great for hot weather. I wear glasses, and they slide in easily, and don't get squeezed into the side of my head. The stock clear shield is optically perfect and functions well. If you're shopping for a new lid, you'd be making a mistake not to put this one on your list.

Great Value on a Snell Rated Helmet!!!
I purchased this helmet primarily because it was Snell rated and a great price. It fits very snugly around my face which is a problem because I wear eyeglasses. I finally got them on but I would recommend a modular helmet to anyone who wears glasses. The helmet looks great and fit and finish is excellent. The size is a 2XL and it is snug compared to others. I bought the optional smoke shield for daytime driving. It is very easy to change out the shields. Overall, a great deal and I would recommend to anyone.

Nice helmet- runs really small
The helmet appeared to be very well made. I am typically between a L and XL in most helmets. Knowing that these run small, I ordered an XL. It was still WAY too small. Although made by HJC, the fit was much smaller than equivalent HJC sizes.

Good helmet
This was my first street helmet purchase, so I don't really have much to compare it to. I love it though. It's really comfortable, and seems to be pretty good about wind noise. The color runs a bit purpler than the picture shows. It's actually a perfect match for my Pearl Blue '05 Shadow.

Fit seems to be on the small side, but again, I don't have anything to compare to. I was just kind of surprised that I, a L shirt guy, needed an XL helmet and it's still a hair tight.

Something else to note: I can't find any smoked shields for this thing, even on the Joe Rocket site.

I'd buy this helmet again. Got it for $85 on sale. Seems to be great value.

am truely impressed
I have never purchased a Joe Rocket helmet before, But as soon as I rode to work with it the first time I was calling all my friends and telling them to consider this model for future purchases. The Aerodynamics of this helmet are far better than any I have purchased in the past, and the air flow was phenomenal. I have a 45mile comute to work in KC heat over 100* and I never even have to raise the face sheild to keep cool.
