Very comfortable, easy on and off. Flows a lot of air. Much better protection than jeans and not noticeably warmer. Off the bike, while standing around or getting gas, it is easy to forget you have them on.
I tried some other mesh pants at cycle gear and other places and the fit and comfort were just not good. I was leery about ordering these online, but I knew Dennis Kirk will let you trade out whatever isn't right hassle free. I ordered Medium - Short. I usually wear jeans in 32 x 30 or 32 x 31. These are perfect. They are still plenty long enough. There are three different places you can secure the knee armor so the leg length isn't as critical as with other pants. These have zippers up the inside of the leg. They zip open way up the leg. I wear Sidi race boots and I can get these pants on and off over the boots no problem. I can also put these pant on over jeans, or just wear shorts. The feel and quality and fit are great.
I loved everything about these pants even aside from the fact that they didn't fit. Really not a fault of Ion or Dennis Kirk; I just didn't read the sizing chart correctly. I returned them (YEAH, FREE SHIPPING) and ordered an exchange replacement of larger and hopefully correct size. Another review forthcoming when I receive the replacement.
I normally wear 36 waist pants with a 30 inch inseam and the XL short Phoenix Ion pants were roomy enough to wear over my street clothes. The quality is good for the price. The problems I encountered: the two snaps on the waist band are so weak that the slightest tug would pull them apart. I replaced the snaps with more conventional ones and now they stay snapped until I pull the snaps apart. I thought it was funny the pants came with two spare replacement snaps in a bag, which of course were useless. The other issue is just my opinion. The bottom of the opening of the pant leg should be secured with a snap or some other more positive method. The narrow strip of velcro isn't strong enough to keep it together in a crash. I added one snap at that point on each leg and it's better. I'd like to see a redesign there too.
