First of all, the picture (as of Feb 2010) is flat out wrong. The picture shows a tire with a wide tread pattern and deep knobs. This tire has a wide tread pattern, but the shallowest knobs I have ever seen on a "knobbie". The depth was more like a trials tire then a knobbie.
Secondly, I had one heck of a time trying to mount the thing. As usual with tire mounting, much of my pain was self inflicted, but at the end of the day the wire bead had ripped out of the rubber, ruining the tire before the wheel ever even got on the bike.
I don't suppose I can blame them for a hard to mount tire, but I can sure blame them for the fact that the wire bead ripped out while I was using hand tools (no matter how clumsy I was trying to mount it).
I threw the tire to the back of the garage in disgust, and ordered a Pirelli Scorpion. Maybe $5 more, *much* deeper knobs, and mounted up without a problem and with no bead or rim damage. The Pirelli had something like a 14mm tread depth, this IRC junk had *maybe* 8mm.
Keep in mind that my experience with Dennis Kirk has been that I have to pay for return shipping, so "gambling" with a $18 tire means that to get your money back (even if the picture was flat out wrong) means you pay $20 in shipping to get an $18 "refund" for your tire... so think long and hard before you roll the dice on this tire... it was the first (and will be the last) IRC product that ever sees the inside of my garage.
