I just have a couple days commuting under this helmet, but I am very impressed, particularly at this price. The fit, finish, and construction are first rate, like a much more expensive helmet. They eye port is large and wide. I'm able to see a lot more over my shoulder with a swivel of my head. Shield operation is slick. It has a position that is about 1/4 inch open (great for fog control), then it has a click against the seal that's like closing the window in your car. Very tight. And, just like the hype says, underway, it draws a little stream of air up into your face area. Not obnoxious, just comfortable. It doesn't mean anything to you to say it's quieter than my old helmet :-), but it's fairly quiet. With my ear plugs in, it's like being in a car. Fits a little small, I'd say. My head measures 23" exactly. I got the large and it fits snug like I like it. I wouldn't put much more cranium in a large. This is a high quality piece. At this price it's a steal. It's MUCH better looking in person than in the pictures. Ride safe.
The ac-12 is an excellent quality helmet after reviewing and comparing closely to several other HJC helmets. The finish is flawless and very durable. No scratches after a full season of riding. The styling is very unique and has an aerodynamic ridge on the back. Really sets it apart from the rest. The noise is acceptable and the comfort is great. I did need to trim the cheek pads a bit but it was better to have too much than not enough. Just slip the foam out of the removable covering and trim to your liking. Lastly the cooling is great. No problems on hot 90 degree days. Highly recommend this one.
Bought one of these a few months ago. Was out for a fresh ride in the canyon. Well ended up face planting it into the side of a mountain. this helmet saved my skull. was able to get up and walk away. Bike not so much. Would recommend this to others.
I actually bought the AC-12 Carbon which doesn't seem to be sold anymore so my review is going toward the other AC-12's. I previously had an HJC AC-11 which I wore for 5 years. I love the look of carbon fiber so I was on the search for a replacement with a CF shell. Since the HJC is 1/2 the price of the Italian stuff and I was already wearing HJC, it seemed like a no-brainer.
I only have two (albeit small) complaints about the AC-12 Carbon. 1.) The fit seems a bit smaller than my AC-11. I went from XXL to XXL and measured my head both times. The fit around my receeding hairline is noticeably different. 2.) There is a bit of airflow around the ears that doesn't seem to be related to any of the switchable vents. My morning commute is before sunrise so I don't get the added benefit of the heat extraction.
All in all, a good helmet for a good price. It's Snell approved (and DOT if that's your thing). I would recommend it to anyone who didn't have the $$$ to buy Italian. The fit may be 8 out of 10, but the looks and value I would rate 10 out of 10!
I had a Ac-11 before buying this one. The AC-12 fits a little tighter, more snug than too tight. The AC12 is lighter with much better airflow than the AC-11 and a prior Bell helmet. I ride a large cruiser without any windshield, and this helmet works good for me.
This helmet was a great deal. The only thing is that it fits a little tight on the cheeks. It is more of a racing type helmet so I guess that should be expected. Otherwise the helmet is true to size. The quality and graphics are amazing.
This is my second HJC helmet. I would put this up against my last Shoei, in quality. The fit and finish of this helmet is excellent. The paint job is a work of art. The photos don't do it justice. When you have the live version, the colors pop out, there are silver flakes that sparkle in the silver band. The cooling venting works very well. Close the vents, and lock the visor, and almost all the wind noise disappears, all you hear is your bike.
This is a dang nice helmet for the price. It lets in a little more air than my other HJC. Maybe AC stands for air conditioned? It'll be nice this summer though. Otherwise, this is a great helmet. Fits true to size, and rather light. Can't beat that.
Got this on closeout. Fits true to size, nice and snug for my XL head. Note I also have a Shoei that I bought in XL, but had to buy bigger cheek pads for to make fit. The HJC XL is obviously a better fit for my head type--ovalish. Features for $ on this helmet is great. That said, I've only been able to wear it around the house. I did fit a blue-tooth comm unit (unit on outside and speakers & thin boom-style mic in the helmet), which is the reason I was looking for a second helmet to begin with. The AC-12 allowed easy tucking of the wires and thin speakers do not contact my ears. Very happy with my purchase.
It was time to replace my AC-10, so I was casually browsing the web and saw Dennis Kirk's clearance deal on AC-12 El Diablos. I clicked. The helmet fits my oval-shaped head very well. I have trouble with fit in a variety of brands, and HJC's head-form seems to match mine quite well. The shield seals excellently, as is normal with HJCs, and is a 'snap' to remove and re-install. The textured graphics (peculiar to the El Diablo) took a bit of getting used to, but I'm good with them now. The interior of the helmet is plush and easily removable for cleaning. Overall, this was a killer deal on a high grade, highly rated helmet. Well done, DK!
I road race motorcycles with WERA and needed a new helmet for this year. I purchased this on because of the price and its SNELL rating. I purchased my helmet on close out for a whopping $64. The helmet fits exactly how I want it. Its tight but not too tight. Its a quality helmet at a great price. The air flow is the best out of any helmet I have had. It didnt fog up on me like most helmets I have had.
Thanks HJC and thanks to Dennis Kirk for the great deal.
Good safety rating, excellent graphics, and nice fit, but my old Cl-SP seemed to be better built. The ear pockets come unsnapped once in a while and the helmet liner folds up when putting the helmet on, BUT as I wear the helmet more, these issues are slowly disappearing. This helmet is one of the quieter ones I have had, but some reviews talk about wind buffeting and stuff. I have had none of these issues personally. The price was simply amazing! These still sell for around $280 on other sites.
Helmet fits nice has good air flow used this the other morning in pooring rain, worked out pretty good.Only disapointment is their is no additional pading under the chin area which is great for warmer weather at least down to 40.Not sure how it wil work out for the days when it drops below 30.Neverthess less it is a comfortable fit and was a great bang for the buck
Just got mine. These are old stock. Mine was manufactured 2006 according to sticker inside helmet. That is 1 year shy of the 5 years most people recommend for life of a helmet due to natural deterioration of foam liner (not wear and tear).
I'm okay with older model, but not such an old actual helmet. Dennis Kirk should notify the customers that these are old stock. Really old.
