Reviews for Drag Specialties Heated Grips - 0630-0426
They appear to be a good design, but the directions are a little skimpy. Make sure you have a service manual handy.I would recommend this item to a friend.
A really nice product, if only...
Looks really awesome but they REALLY need to rework the sleeve! Recommended but with careful reservations.... Drag Specialties makes 2 versions of this heated grip - Harley and Metric. The box I recieved was marked "Heated Grips 1 inch Metric" for my Kawasaki Mean Streak. The box includes the left and right grips (right grip with throttle sleeve), battery pigtail with fuse holder and a crimp-on quick splice connector for the power lead. Out of the box everything looks great and the grips are of high quality with great feel and quality materials. The problem is when you try to install them. Although they are specified at "5 1/2 inch" the measurement is total length. Those chrome end caps are mounted on the end of the grip, via screws...and the interior grip length is therefore SHORTER. The throttle side's length is as specified but the clutch side's internal length is only about 5 inches, making it a bit short. I cut down a piece of my old grip to use as a (very good looking) spacer. The BIG issue is the throttle sleeve - it is about 1/32 inch TOO SMALL. Therefore it binds on the "standard" 1-inch bar, regardless of being specified as perfectly fitting a 1-inch bar. The throttle still works but it fails to return closed and sticks in position. After days of trying to figure out a clean solution I finally had to sand down the bar...to only limited success. The throttle sleeve fits the push-pull cable setup of metric cruisers, or pull only as well, but the sleeve has that small design flaw and it CANNOT be changed as the grip is vulcanized to the sleeve - quite permanent. Otherwise the product is very good - good heat with a nice feel and really nice construction. My hands got blackened by the grips a bit but nothing major, I expect that to wear off.I wouldn't recommend this item to a friend.
Best aftermarket heated grips available.
Installed on 1998 Valkyrie. Kit comes with replacement grips that are simple with just the right amount of chrome IMHO, & the connecting electric wires are internal through the handlebar. The heating control is easy to operate with one finger, off - low, medium, high on the left grip right next to my turn signals. They were pricing to have installed by the Honda dealer ($210). If you can do it yourself, these are an incredible value! There is an added benefit too. You know how the stock grips’ throttle (right) really springs back with a vengeance? Well these are a tight fit. So the throttle only goes back to idle VERY slowly. Its kind of like a built in cruise control! Certainly good enough to momentarily let go & adjust your mirror, reach in a pocket, adjust your glasses, helmet or whatever. I REALLY like this bonus. The tech at the Honda shop said he could sand/buff the handlebar underneath the right grip to have it slip back like stock but luckily for me he saw the benefit too and called me first. I said leave it and he & I made the right call there. BOTTOM LINE: I can now ride my bike in pretty much any Temp nature can throw at me. THESE GRIPS ARE GREAT!I would recommend this item to a friend.
