2015 Custom Chopper

What motivated you to start your project?

Grew up on bikes, first or bikes and then later raised superbikes on track. But I always wanted to build a custom bike, when I moved from Texas to Las Vegas I had the time to start looking at doing that.

What was the most unique and creative thing you did to the bike?

This was a full on custom, and made everything I could possibly do type of bike. I started with a frame off of craigslist and that kind a led me down the road as far as what style I was going to do. Billy Lane is a huge inspiration style wise, so that’s what I used as a template.  There are hundreds of hours in fabing out almost every part on his bike, from the front end to the custom air cleaner/velocity stack.    Literally every part on this bike was either hand fabricated by me, or highly modified from a stock component. One of the most unique things I think about the bike is all cables and electrical are hidden. Everything is underneath the transmission, the battery, regulator, etc. Even the clutch cable runs inside the right downtube and pops out right in front of the transmission so even the clutch cable is hidden.  Internal throttle as well.   It’s a small detail that most people don’t even realize that there is no cables or wires visible anywhere on the bike the front brake line is about the only cable that really sticks out and even if it has been integrated behind the lower triple of the Springer that I machine a notch in with a plate so it looks like it runs through the triple to hold in place.

What are you most proud of?

The way the bike turned out and the attention it gets when I’m riding it or have it at any bike night, or bike shows from other full time builders considering this was my first build.

What do other people say about your motorcycle?

Spent tons of time talking about all the little details and all the time it took to do each component with all the other guys who want to know anything and everything about the bike, so a lot of compliments which is very satisfying!

Kick ass!! That’s very cool and inspiring to see what an “average Joe” can do in his own garage for less than $6,000!!! What does this guy do for a living??

Specifics

Make, Model & Year: 2015 Custom Chopper
Fondly known as: My first
Time spent: Countless, 2 years
Motorcycle cost: 5,600
Money spent: 5,600
Engine: Rev Tech 110” that required a rebuild done by me.
Intake: Carburetor is a Keihn And the intake is custom fabricated by me. It has an internal filter that you can’t see so it looks like an open velocity stack which a lot of people think is cool.
Exhaust: Not sure the manufacturer, but again I found a set on craigslist in a modified it to work with what I had vision wise in my head.
Transmission: Revtech 5 speed, BDL open primary that I found for a couple hundred bucks that I had to rehab extensively just to make work, Spent time on the phone with a BDL tech to come up with a solution to a problem that I ran into, but it all works great now
Suspension: Hard tail with a springer front, Twisted Choppers narrow front that I had to cut and re-size to fit.
Wheels, tires and brakes: Polished aluminum wheels, 240 rear, 21” front with custom made bracket and GMA caliper.
Finish – Paint: Raw metal with clear coat and brass accents everywhere
Accessories: Seat was custom-made by me, I was machining the grips down to cover them with leather but wound up liking the look of the machined grips so I left them raw as well. As far as foot pegs and forward controls, I just married up some dirt bike pegs to my own fabbed set of forward control, the bars are costumes made to fit the me and the bike-it’s like a custom suit!
