1997 Honda Shadow VLX 600

What was your intended objective when you started the build?

To build a short chop/bob

What motivated you to start your project?

Since I found the motorcycle so cheap I wanted to build something on my own with as little aftermarket product as possible.

What was the most unique and creative thing you did to the bike?

There are a few items that I feel were pretty creative that may be small details and hard to see unless it is in person. One example of an item I used in place of buying an aftermarket item is my electronics tank.
I used an expired fire extinguisher to get the desired size I wanted. Both ends were cut off and faced evenly on a lathe. The end caps are bolted in place to a ring that is welded and tapped on the inside of the tube.
All my components that were on my handlebars are also mounted to the tank, example: emergency safety cut off switch and start button.
My sissy bar is an old tiki torch stolen from my neighbors house.

What are you most proud of?

I guess I am proud of the fact that everything was done in my 12 x 24 shed in my back yard.

What do other people say about your motorcycle?

  • Most people look twice before they realize that it is a honda.
I have received plenty of compliments since completing the project.
