Fitment for Cobra Slip-On w/Slash Cut Tip - 1176SC
I had purchased my Cobra Slip On pipes from Dennis Kirk after having looked at several other pipes. I had concerns that these would not be loud enough since they are slip on pipes, but they are exponentially better than stock pipes and well worth the money.
I really wanted a pipe that not only sounded good, but looked good as well. I had drilled out my stock pipes on my VTX 1300, and while the sound was better than stock, it wasnt anywhere near the level that I heard after installing the Cobras.
Price and ease of installation were considerations in choosing the Cobras and while the directions could have been better, the installation was not hard.
The pipes will rumble quietly when idling through town, but will bark with authority with a twist of the throttle.
The clap of thunder exiting out my garage was long over due. Replaced my Honda stock pipes yesterday, what a differnce, I'm seen and heard. Install took a little longer than an hour. Pipes look great, plenty of chrome to compliment this style of bike. The sound is excellent, just enough rumble to drown out the croch rocket next to me. Dennis Kirk by far has been one of the most prompt wedsites I've ever ordered from. Ordered the pipes on Sunday and received them on Wednesday; just like they promised.
Just installed them 2 hours ago and what a difference. Sounds and looks so much better than the stock exhaust. Won't be made fun of at work tomorrow! Installation was very simple and pipes fit perfectly. Put the clamps on backwards so the screw portion was to the inside, left plenty of room to get a wrench in to tighten them. Looks better than with the screw portion to the outside. Great Pipes and great price!
I put these on my VTX1300R and what a HUGE difference from stock. The sound is awesome! A deep rumble when idling but it's not overkill with how loud they are. Now when the throttle is cracked thats a different story. Plenty of sound there to upset the neighbors. It had taken about an hour to remove the stock and put the new ones on. That was taking my time. The nice part is the bike runs better with these on and i do not have to re-jet the carb as with a full exhaust system. I may have got lucky with not haveing to re-jet the carb but that was the case with this bike.
installation was a snap,i just wish i would thought of ordering new gaskets with them.lucky i found some local. chrome looks excellent on the main bodies but the brackets could have been done nicer.painted the inside of the slash cuts with high temp matte black and this added much needed accent/detail.also upgraded to stainless hardware. they have a nice mellow rumble at a cruise, crack the throttle and they bark real sweet. i put them on an '07 shadow 1100vtc. overall very happy.
I had a pair of Jardine Rumblers that were louder and the baffles were held in with pop rivets, they only lasted 3 years. The baffles are welded into these mufflers and the finish is much better, for $150 less. Sounds great.
I installed these mufflers on my 1100 V-star custom. It took only about 30-45 min which included removal of the factory mufflers. The factory mufflers were too bulky and didn't look or sound very good. The cobras give my bike a leaner/meaner appearance. The rumble makes my bike sound a little bigger than an 1100cc. Not too loud but just enough to be noticed and sound good at the same time. Could just be my imagination but I seem to have gained a little pep as well as looks and sound. Very happy!
These Cobra Slip Ons Sound Great On My Honda VTX1300R They Were Easy To Install And For A Good Price. They Fit Perfectly And Look Great On My Bike, But The Sound Is Amazing, Nice Low Rumble When Idle Or At A Cruising Speed, But Open The Throttle And They Roar!
My honda sadow 1100 did't come with a tachometer. I couldn't hear the engine to know when to shift. The cobra exhaust allowed me to hear the engine and gave a more aggresive sound. I am very pleased with my purchase and would reccomende it to others with stock exchaust.
Fit was good. Installed them on my 2008 1100 V Star. Louder than I expected. Direction were clear, it took a toal of 30 Min to remove stock mufflers and install these. Very happy. 100% improvment over stock, It took a while to get used to how loud they are compared to stock. Its how a V Star is supposed to sound .
I was reluctant to buy slip ons for fear of them being too quiet. I was pleasantly surprised when they were installed on my v-star 1100 custom. The installation took only about half an hour to forty five minutes. That included removing the factory pipes.....Super Easy! Sounds and looks 100% better than the bulky factory mufflers. I am considering a carb jet kit as well to boost my engines preformance, although it doesn't seem necessary with these pipes. Money well spent!
I had the cobra slip on's on my 1100 V-star and was a little concerned that they would be too loud on the road star, however, I was pleasantly surprised that they are about the same, if not just slightly louder. They are loud enough for safety but not loud enough to upset the neighbors when idling in the driveway
I had stock pipes with a Clayton mod and they sounded okay. I liked the really deep rumble they had and was hesitant about changing that sound but wanted something a little louder. The Cobras give my bike and even deeper rumble and sound great. They're reasonably quiet when idling or cruising at a steady speed, but when you twist the throttle, these things are loud! That's exactly what I wanted because I drive long distances and don't want to hear nothing but my pipes during the trip but I wanted the ability to make my bike bark when I want it to. Installation was fairly simple and took about an hour and a half from start to finish. The instructions weren't as bad as what other reviews claimed. If you know anything about turning a wrench, you'll be just fine.
Definitly the best choise if you need a louder sound on your VTX, I decided change the OE slips to increase the noise by security issues, these cobras works! and the size kept the motorcycle looking good, easy to install and you dont change the whole system it helps to maintain the original crhome mufflers at the V Twin area.
Help at the street and the freeway to keep alert the drivers of trucks and automobiles, perfect between cost Quality and sound.
Awsome set of slip on muflers. Fit and finish are 100%. Took about 45 minutes to install. Sound is great but a little louder then I expected. Wish they would include a new set of gaskets, took longer to get them out of the orginal mufflers then it did to install the new set. Performance seems to have improved
WOW!!! That's all I can say. Taking the factory mufflers off was rather a task but they finally came off with a lot of wiggling and tapping the muffler with a piece of wood and a rubber hammer. Only complaint I have is, the instructions SUCK! I bought new muffler gaskets or as Yamaha calls them, silencer gaskets, you don't need the gaskets on the 2011 Roadstar Silverado S. Just slip them over the pipe and tighten the clamps down. Now my Roadstar has an attitude that's on steroids.
Installed these on an '08 VTX1300T. Fit was perfect after ignoring the generic lousy instructions. To me they sounded great on the bike, but the bike's owner had me take them off after 3 days. He said they were so continuously loud on the highway that he couldn't enjoy the ride anymore. He went back to the stock mufflers and quickly sold the Cobras to a friend. If you want bark and loud, they're great. If you like a muffled rumble, keep the stock mufflers.
I bought these slipons and the are more than what I expected. I ride a 2006 Honda VTX 1300R and they look great. They are a whole lot lighter than the big clunky stock exhaust. And the sound is awesome. They sound really nice at idle and absolutely awesome when you take off. They go to a nice rumble at cruising speed but absolutely roar if you twist the throttle even the tiniest amount.
I put these pipes on my 2007 Honda VTX 1300R. I decided to install them myself. The instructions were poor at best but i was able to figure them out. It took me 2-3 hours. Never had installed pipes before.
When i started the bike for the first time they seemed to be extremely loud but after riding it some and comparing it to pipes on other bikes, I have decided they are about right. Not loud on idle or cruising speed like some, but definitely can be heard on acceleration.
Lastly, they look really good. Nice fit and finish.
These cobra slips ons were a pleasant surprise! I was tossed up with the idea of getting a full exhaust or just a slip on. I heard a guys bike that had cobra longs and I loved the sound, but then I factored in the rejet kit and labor I would've spent so I decided to try the slip ons. I am not that much of a do it yourselfer, but figured I would try this project myself since it seemed pretty simple. It only took about an hour from start to finish and the outcome put a big smile on my face. They look awesome on the bike. I like the fact that my bike is loud now when cruising, but now overbearing when idling in the neighborhood. A few of my friends who own Harley's actually said they were very impressed with the sound...... I know I am very pleased and would recommend this product for anyone who wants a lot more rumble than a stock exhaust, but not too much to wake up the neighbors.
I bought the Cobra slip-ons for my Vulcan 1500. They went on easy and all the needed parts for the conversion were in the package with them I was riding my bike and listening to a beautiful sound in just 30 minutes. How great is that.
These slip-on exhaust pipes were easy to install. They sound and look great. I'm very satisfied with the change in my VTX 1300R. I purchased a re-jetting kit but I haven't used it yet. Things seem to be working great without it. Instructions require some forethought and thinking about what you are doing and what the end goal is.
I put these pipes on my 1996 Yamaha XV 750. The instructions could have been a little better but after some modifications they fit pretty good. I also installed a jet kit and found the performance improved.
Honda vtx 1800 r3 2006
With Cobra slash cut slip ons
Denniskirk has delivered.
Very happy and surprised with the loudness. Really crackles with the twist of the throttle but quiet enough in the morning to respect the neighbors at 5am if I'm easy on the throttle. Looks are stylish and awesome looking and the price was perfect. I have a vtx 1800 r3 2006 Happy customer, Joel N.
Ups delivered the pipes about 5pm it took just under an hour to install them, if you have any mechanical ability you should be able to easily do it yourself. They sound great and look just as good. They are loud so people will hear you coming. defiantly gives the bike a true v twin sound. i would recommend for the do it yourself-er as long as you are looking for the "Harley" sound
Put these on my 07 Honda VTX 1300R. Once I figured out the directions which are a little tough to understand it goes very fast. Everything fit very good, looks and sounds great, now can not wait for summer so i can run them all the time.
Easy install, about 30 min from start to finish on 2009 V Star 1100 Custom. Sounds much meaner than the stock exhaust, and definitely gets attention. Now I have to roll my bike to the end of the driveway before starting my bike (I work 3rd shift) or wake all of the neighbors.
Great value for the price, but keep in mind that they are much louder than any sound file that I have been able to find on the web suggests.
Installation was fast, easy and straight forward on my 02 Honda VT1100C2. Being a single wall exhaust system, expect the pipes to blue some. Installing a re-jet kit is a must with these. With the "baffles" installed, the pipes have a mellow tune to them. Once removed, they are much louder and a noticable difference in performance. I'd recommend keeping them installed.
Got these for my 06 vtx 1300r. directions was horrible but after getting pass that and about little under 2 hours we got them mounted....The sound made me forget about the bad directions. Nice idle and highway speed sound but when you open them up..boy do they yell!!! Didn't have to retune the bike either been running great ever since. looks great on the bike...
If you know your way around your bike you will have an easy time. If you're like me, and can do most maintenance on your car (brakes, belts, oil, etc) but little experience working on your bike, you will still not have much trouble. Hardest part was loosening the clamps from my existing stock exhaust and then getting the heat shields fastened back on. The Cobra slip-ons installed with little trouble, seals got a little beat up when I removed them from my old exhaust so you may want to look at getting a couple new ones. They look very good on the bike and sound much better than the stock mufflers. They are louder, but if I don't rev the throttle, I am able to sneak out of my neighborhood in the morning. My only concern with these pipes is the way they fasten with only one bolt to the brackets on the bike, and they also provide a cheap hex bolt to fasten to the bracket. I will be looking for a stainless bolt to replace. Overall, a worthwhile upgrade, and a good value for this old bike. DK was awesome with one day shipping by the way. I will buy again!
I had a set of Cobras on my last bike. Wish I would have looked to make sure the baffles were non removable on these. Probably for the best though. I just wish they were loud throughout the powerband. There is a sweet spot where they sound great. Deeper than the 2in pipes but still wanted a little deeper sound.
I bought the Cobra slip-ons to replace the modified stock pipes. They were cheaper than a full set and my VTX is basically stock so I need lots of goodies. . The enclosed instructions were not much help, but I got some pointers on youtube and had them on in about an hour. They sound great. They have a nice rumble until you crack the throttle and then they ROAR. The price was right and shipping was fast as always. Thanks Dennis Kirk
Overall, OK. Instructions weren't worth reading. Customer "Service" couldn't tell me if I needed new gaskets all around (I didn't--head gaskets yes, but the lower wire mesh/graphite ones, no). Had to bend one clamp to fit and enlarge the hole. Tip of one muffler was within 1 mm. of the axle...installed spacers to move it out. Noticed some rust inside the ends after just 3 days.
So, overall, they're better that the 17 year old original rusty, rotted OEM system. Sound good, no rejetting needed, but I am using the KJS single intake/Mikuni carb. In the end, I can't complain.
So far I'm not happy with this product. Not once in any review or in the instructions "that I read before I ordered" did it mention new caskets are GOING to be needed to complete the install. So as of now my bike sits until I can get to a LOCAL shop and fix this mess. I should have known better and just paid a little extra and bought from a local dealer.
