Reviews for Cobra Shorts Hot Rod Speedster Exhaust System
What I was hoping for
As a past sport bike rider with a degenerating lumbar spine, my 08 Mean Streak keeps me on the road. A great bike with a wimpy sound that the Speedsters Shorts has definitely fixed! Beautiful fit and finish. All parts supplied as needed. The hardest part was removing the stock exhaust, as the provided directions have nothing on how to do that. Now just need to get the FI2000R installed to optimize the tune (also lacking good directions on removing the tank!), and all should be great.I would recommend this item to a friend.
Great Pipes for VTX1800c
I am not a wrench in any form or fashion, but I had the stock pipes off & these babies on in less than 4 hours. That includes time spent running to the stealership for new exhaust gaskets. Installed the Cobra Fi2000 Fuel Processor too (only 15 min to install),and the bike runs like a dream. Such an improvement over stock exhaust, both in looks and performance. I have noticed maybe a small drop in gas mileage by 10 total miles per tank of gas, but that is just a guess because I've only filled up three times since the pipe's installation. Truth told, that missing 10 miles is prob just me cranking on the throttle excessively just to hear that beautiful rumble.I would recommend this item to a friend.
Really complement the Honda VTX 1800
I've been contemplating adding an aftermarket exhaust to my VTX 1800c for a while now. After many youtube videos, and after reading countless online reviews, I decided on the Cobra Hot Rod Speedsters Shorts. BTW, Dennis Kirk had the cheapest Prices online. First, I'd like to say that I am not a mechanically inclined person. As a matter of fact, I've never performed any major automotive or small engine repair in my life, other that changing my own oil in years past. However, after watching numerous youtube videos & following the included instructions, I had my stock exhaust pipes off, and the Cobra Shorts on in about 3 hours. I have a Cobra Fi2000 fuel processor on the way too, but In all honesty, I've been running the pipes now for three days, and I have experienced zero popping or backfiring during deceleration. My Bike seems to run very smooth without the fuel processor. The only thing I seem to notice, is that I may have a tad less throttle torque in 2nd and 3rd, but 4th and 5th feel like they'll pull me off the bike. The pipes are actually quiet enough around the neighborhood, as long as you're just cruising casually. However, just crank on that throttle, and these suckers will BARK! I can only imagine what they'd sound like with the baffles out. The only two negative things i have to say about these pipes are that one: the hose clamps on the heat shields are almost impossible to get on for a person with large hands. As a matter of fact, there is one clamp i still cant get fastened simply because i cannot get my cave man hands into the space needed to tighten the clamps. I'll have to find some nimble fingered bud in the next few days to complete this for me. And the second negative, is due to two small pings (indentions) that were in the upper heat shield when i received them form Dennis Kirk. It's obvious this happened at Cobra's end, but they are not really that noticeable unless the light shines on them just right.I would recommend this item to a friend.
I wish they were just a little louder, but I am thrilled with these pipes.I would recommend this item to a friend.
