I recently began building my first ever cafe racer. My first purchase was the Clymer manual. This manual is the perfect starting point for any project like this or just general repairs. The information is precise, detailed, and easy to follow. Detailed pictures help guide you through each step of what ever your current project on the bike may be. If i build another bike of a different make, I will be sure to buy the corresponding Clymer manual from DENNISKIRK.COM
I purchased this manual to replace the fork seals. It provided clear step-by-step instructions on the process. Replacing the seals without the helpful information provided by this manual would have been difficult.
Read the well-organized Clymer manual first and you will virtually eliminate problems fixing your bike. The guides are written in a language any mechanic or home do-it-yourselfer can understand and follow. The photos/illustrations focus in on the areas to be repaired. Tech tips throughout the book also keep the repair or maintenance items organized. Get one of these manuals before opening up the tool box.
First I should say that due to the nature of this particular motorcycle (GSF1200-very tough engine) and the time I owned it I may not hav the most in-depth review here but I did find it very useful and was quite impressed by the content. I do all my own work and used it several times throughout my ownership. I did a complete valve adjustment (16 in all) and a few carb adjustments with one thorough cleaning, and an assortment of other tune-up maintenances. I found this manual incredably useful and had no problems with any of my work. Also lots of useful tips and specs, torques, and tolerances. Even valuable break in info and oils to use. Instructions are easy to follow and include pictures. Unfortunately I had to sell the bike due to high running costs (some consumable but mostly legal...). The manual went with the bike and I know the next owner will appreciate it as much as I did. Ive since purchased another Clymer manual for a different bike (LS650-just as tough but a whole new game). Its been my dream bike sinse I was a kid but 597miles mean Im making full use of the instructions for break-in and maitenance and will continue to find it usefull far into the future. Enjoy friends, good luck, and thank you Clymer and Dennis Kirk.
This book shows you exactly everything you would need to do to cut down on costly shop bills, and gives you the steps and examples to get the job done right while giving you piece of mind, all at the same time!!!
This is an outstandingly prepared and presented book. The weight of the stock makes it easy to flip through without skipping pages. The quality of the photos and drawings is as good as it gets with no fuzziness or fading. There is an excellent array of the various models wiring diagrams at the back. The information is easy to find since you are not trying to figure out which version or term the writers may have used. I'll be ordering another copy to keep as my "clean" desk copy.
I've had a couple of these books before and I always run across some essential bit of information that Clymer leaves out, or some procedure that won't work quite as described in the book. There's a lot of useful information in there, but with all the re-printings these things have gone through they ought to be 100% correct--especially for the price.
