I have a huge head and I have had a lot of trouble finding a helmet to fit. XXL's just don't cut it. I was forced to buy online because there was not a single helmet that fit me locally, in the style I wanted. I could have gone with the skull cap but I'd feel safer in my hockey helmet.
I live in Canada and it was a breeze buying from Dennis Kirk. If you ship via Canada post, you will not be hit with the crazy UPS fees and the helmet arrived in a little more than a week. The prices are as good as anywhere else I've looked and better than buying locally.
I wanted open face, retractable sun visor, full length clear shield in a helmet which fit. I got all of these with the VG-1000. There is lots of padding and it fits my head evenly overall. It doesn't feel heavy. Unlike many other helmets with a separate sun visor, this one comes down to just above the nose providing excellent coverage.
On the minus side, the sun visor is quite clunky to raise and lower by the slide on the side. It works when off of my head but the flex when wearing the helmet jams something in the mechanism. I think it will be an easy fix so that's not a big deal. The only other thing is the strap is a bit short. If you're going to buy an XXXL helmet, you probably have an above average amount of neck. A few more inches of strap would be good. Again, not a huge deal.
For a little more than a hundred dollars, a good deal, especially for the large of head.
