So why should you ditch your lead-acid battery and shell out for a new Shorai lithium motorcycle battery? \u00a0Here&#8217;s what you need to know.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">For anyone who wants to gain an edge over their competitors, shedding extra weight has to be a top priority.\u00a0 Traditional lead-acid batteries can really weigh your machine down.\u00a0 By switching to the Shorai LFX, you can dramatically shave the weight off of your bike or ATV.\u00a0 In fact, the LFX will be up to 80% lighter than your stock lead-acid battery.\u00a0 Shorai claims that their LFX battery will cut an average of 2-3 pounds for dirt bikes, 6-8 pounds for street bikes and an extraordinary 10-20 pounds for cruisers and touring bikes.\u00a0 You\u2019ll be hard-pressed to find an easier way to shed that much weight on your bike.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Does the smaller size and weight of lithium batteries mean that you will lose cranking power with them?\u00a0 The answer is actually quite the opposite.\u00a0 Despite being smaller, the Shorai battery, along with most other lithium motorcycle batteries, actually make your starter crank faster than lead-acid batteries because they operate at a higher voltage range.\u00a0 Faster cranking means that your bike has a better chance of starting and is easier on your starter with\u00a0the extra oompf.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">All of that is awesome, but if you are someone who really doesn\u2019t care about the added performance, the added convenience might be what convinces you to switch.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">After long rides, it\u2019s easy to forget to hook up your Battery Tender on your bike. \u00a0When that happens, you\u2019re left with a dead battery the next time you go to ride. \u00a0If you continue to drain the battery down, it can degrade over time.\u00a0 The LFX has a very low self-discharge rate that allows it to hold a charge for a very long time.\u00a0 A rider could leave their fully charged LFX battery unattended for at least 6 months and possibly even a year and the bike will still start.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Also, you don\u2019t have to worry about sulfation with lithium batteries like the Shorai LFX.\u00a0 Sulfation is the formation of large crystalline deposits on the negative plates.\u00a0 This reduces the high capacity and low resistance active material in the battery\u00a0making it less effective and it will\u00a0take much longer to fully charge.\u00a0 If sulfation is allowed to continue, it can become irreversible and your battery will eventually become worthless.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Another benefit of lithium batteries is that you are not dealing with explosive gasses, lead or acid.\u00a0 The LFX is a sealed battery and is far easier to work with compared to a lead-acid battery.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Even though the lithium batteries are sealed, you still don\u2019t want them bouncing around in your battery box, which they will be prone to do since they are much smaller.\u00a0 Shorai has you covered, though.\u00a0 With their LFX battery, they provide you with enough foam to shim around your battery to make it very stable.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In the rare times that you need to charge your lithium battery, it is recommended that you use a charger made specifically for lithium batteries.\u00a0 You will still be able to use your standard charger in a pinch, though.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">If you\u2019re looking to shave weight, gain performance and almost completely forget about battery maintenance, you need to check out the Shorai LFX batteries for your bike.<\/p>\n<p
