{"id":4713,"date":"2013-11-08T14:57:52","date_gmt":"2013-11-08T20:57:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.denniskirk.com\/?p=4713"},"modified":"2022-06-01T13:30:20","modified_gmt":"2022-06-01T18:30:20","slug":"is-this-the-future-powersports","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.denniskirk.com\/blog\/2013\/11\/08\/is-this-the-future-powersports\/","title":{"rendered":"Is This the Future of Powersports?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">There were many surprises at EICMA (the world\u2019s biggest motorcycle exhibition in Milan, Italy), including Harley\u2019s unveiling of their new lightweight Street 500 and Street 750.\u00a0 Other big name manufacturers unveiled their new productions and prototypes at the show as well, but some of the most interesting machines may have come from the smaller guys.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">One of the new and lesser known motorcycle companies, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.caterhambikes.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Caterham Bikes<\/a>, gave the crowds at EICMA something interesting that could potentially create a new niche of bikes.\u00a0 The Caterham Brutus 750 looks, at first glance, like a bike that could fit into the niche of survival bikes, but when you look again, you start to see the refinement that this machine possesses.\u00a0 It seems to be a hybrid between a dirt bike, ATV and small cruiser motorcycle.<a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.denniskirk.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Brutus-750.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" data-attachment-id=\"4716\" data-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.denniskirk.com\/blog\/2013\/11\/08\/is-this-the-future-powersports\/brutus-750\/\" data-orig-file=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.denniskirk.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Brutus-750.jpg?fit=700%2C325&amp;ssl=1\" data-orig-size=\"700,325\" data-comments-opened=\"1\" data-image-meta=\"{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;created_timestamp&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;copyright&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;focal_length&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;iso&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;shutter_speed&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;&quot;}\" data-image-title=\"Brutus 750\" data-image-description=\"\" data-image-caption=\"\" data-large-file=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.denniskirk.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Brutus-750.jpg?fit=700%2C325&amp;ssl=1\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4716\" style=\"margin-top: 10px; margin-bottom: 10px;\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.denniskirk.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Brutus-750.jpg?resize=700%2C325&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Caterham Bikes\" width=\"700\" height=\"325\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.denniskirk.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Brutus-750.jpg?w=700&amp;ssl=1 700w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.denniskirk.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Brutus-750.jpg?resize=300%2C139&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">When you look at the bike, you start to think about where you can take that thing, but your mind might not think of one of the places that it is able to go.\u00a0 The Brutus 750 is capable of being converted into a snowmobile in a couple of hours with an aftermarket conversion kit.\u00a0 The popularity of snow bikes has been on the rise in the past few years, but the conversions can be a long and skilled process.\u00a0 If the conversion of the Brutus only takes a couple of hours, the potential for the different kinds of adventure during the same day is off the charts.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Brutus seems like it would be a good machine for someone who would like to dabble in the three worlds of street, off road and snow. \u00a0However, the bike does seem like it would have some limitations in certain areas for the extreme riders.\u00a0 Weighing in at around 518 pounds, it is much heavier than typical dirt bikes, so jumping and making tight maneuvers are probably out of the question.\u00a0 With those <a href=\"https:\/\/www.denniskirk.com\/maxxis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Maxxis Big Horn tires<\/a>, though, this thing can probably make it through some tough terrain.\u00a0 The Big Horn tires are known for their durability and the grip they can get with the right amount of torque driving them.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The weight could also be an issue in the snow.\u00a0 With modern mountain sleds weighing in well under 500 pounds, this thing wouldn&#8217;t be able to hang with them in the deep snow.\u00a0 It could, however, be a fun and unique experience taking it down the hard pack trails and watching all of the heads turn as you cruise by.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">So is this bike the future?
