Here is a quick safety checklist to help you prepare for your next trail ride.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Planning:<\/strong> Map out your ride using trail maps. You should plan the length of your trip and people you are traveling with. Riding alone can be dangerous. Always plan rides with a group of people you can trust. You should also let a friend or family member know where you are going along with details about where you are going, estimated trip length, and contact information.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pack an emergency kit:<\/strong> It is very important to have the proper equipment in case of emergencies. Here is a list of items that you should include in your emergency kit<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a title=\"First Aid Kits\" href=\"https:\/\/www.denniskirk.com\/snowmobile\/first-aid-kits\">First Aid Kit<\/a>: Make sure it is stored in a waterproof container<\/li>\n<li><a title=\"Tool Kits\" href=\"https:\/\/www.denniskirk.com\/snowmobile\/shop-tools\">Tool kit<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a title=\"Survival Kit\" href=\"https:\/\/www.denniskirk.com\/snowmobile\/safety-and-survival\">Survival items<\/a>: could include compass, waterproof matches, space blanket, water, food<\/li>\n<li><a title=\"Spark Plugs\" href=\"https:\/\/www.denniskirk.com\/snowmobile\/spark-plug\">Spark plugs<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a title=\"Drive Belts\" href=\"https:\/\/www.denniskirk.com\/snowmobile\/drive-belts\">Drive belt<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Tow straps<\/li>\n<li>Flares<\/li>\n<li>Flashlight with spare batteries<\/li>\n<li>Extra ignition key<\/li>\n<li>Personal items: ID, money, medication, insurance forms, cell phone<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Check your ride:<\/strong> Before riding your sled you need to ensure that everything is working properly. Check your fuel and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.denniskirk.com\/snowmobile\/batteries\">battery<\/a>, <a title=\"Snowmobile skis, skis, and wear rods\" href=\"https:\/\/www.denniskirk.com\/snowmobile\/skis\">skis<\/a> and<a title=\"Snowmobile skis, skis, and wear rods\" href=\"https:\/\/www.denniskirk.com\/snowmobile\/wear-rods\"> wear rods<\/a>, <a title=\"Drive Belts\" href=\"https:\/\/www.denniskirk.com\/snowmobile\/drive-belts\">drive belt<\/a>, <a title=\"Handlebars and controls\" href=\"https:\/\/www.denniskirk.com\/snowmobile\/handlebars\">handlebars<\/a>, <a title=\"Brake Pads and Shoes\" href=\"https:\/\/www.denniskirk.com\/snowmobile\/brakes\">brakes<\/a>, <a title=\"Lighting and Bulbs\" href=\"https:\/\/www.denniskirk.com\/snowmobile\/lighting-and-bulbs\">lights<\/a>, emergency switch, and throttle (it needs to easily switch to idle or closed). You should also make sure that you have been keeping up with your <a title=\"Is Your Snowmobile Ready for Snow?\" href=\"http:\/\/blog.denniskirk.com\/1139\/snowmobile\/is-your-snowmobile-ready-for-snow\/\">snowmobile maintenance<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Be familiar with local laws:<\/strong> Laws can vary from state to state. Be sure that you are aware of the laws regarding snowmobiling in your state. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.snowmobilers.org\/saferider\/laws\/page_00.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Here is a list of general snowmobile laws<\/a>. You should also make sure you are using proper <a href=\"http:\/\/www.snowmobilers.org\/saferider\/safety\/page_01.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">hand signals<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Apparel:<\/strong> Always make sure that you check the weather before your trip. This will help you plan your <a title=\"Snowmobile Apparel\" href=\"https:\/\/www.denniskirk.com\/snowmobile\/apparel\/\">riding apparel<\/a>.
