Both are impacted by multiple components on your sled. These components include the skis, carbides, track, and suspension. In this episode of Sled Check, we&#8217;re going to show you how to check all these components on a used snowmobile to ensure your sled is riding on rails.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed aligncenter is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Traction Maintenance on our Polaris Indy 600 | SLED CHECK\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/RpsR4GmkFEA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>One area where many riders may neglect to check for handling is their suspension setup, including the front and rear suspension. In the front, worn bushings can lead to sloppy movements from the skis. It&#8217;s a good idea to check the swingarm bushings before each riding season to ensure there is no play. Check rod ends and ball joints as well for the same reasons as well as for safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The suspension setup is also critical for handling. The amount of ski pressure can greatly impact how the sled handles. Any irregularities to your skis can cause the machine to dart or not pull straight. In addition, there are a wide variety of ski options for different styles of riding. Deep powder skis are much wider to provide floatation. Many trail biased skis feature a more narrow design and a deeper keel to make turning easy in tight compacted trails. A good backcountry ski fits in the middle. Choose the ski that best fits your machine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Carbides are the next area that you need to check. Ensure there are no missing pieces of carbide and that the host bar is not bent or too thin. Both of these issues can cause your sled to dart around on trail conditions. You also need to ensure that the amount of carbide matches the amount of push you receive from the track. When looking over a used track, there are few things to look for. First, ensure that there are no major pieces of rubber missing from the lugs. Check for any tears in the track as well. Also, look to see that you are not missing any track clips. Clips can be replaced, but if any major tears or missing pieces are present, it&#8217;s time for a new track.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If your track is studded, look for any ripped out studs. These rips can turn into bigger problems down the line.
