With the large selection, high quality materials and amazing fit, there has never been a better time for women who are looking for motorcycle jackets. More and more women are getting into motorcycling and the apparel manufacturers are taking notice. Over the past few years they have stepped up their game and have put out some really good pieces for women in all motorcycle niches including cruiser, sport bike, café racer and dual sport/adventure touring. All the ladies know they can hang with the guys on their bikes. Now their motorcycle jackets can keep up with them.
Below are the top picks for womens motorcycle jackets this year for each niche. Some are brand new additions, while others are the staples that women riders continue to love.
When you think of top of the line cruiser jackets, premium leather comes to mind. The Womens Scout from River Road is about as good as gets for leather cruiser jackets for women. The jacket’s chassis is built with premium, heavy-weight leather to make for an extremely durable piece that you can depend on. The classic design of the Scout will never go out of style, and will even begin to look better as it gets older with proper care. The heavy leather combined with the fully-sleeved snap out liner make this jacket excellent in the cooler temps. As the temps rise, you can remove the liner and open up the two large intake and two exhaust vents to stay cool.
The clean look of the Womens Scout is complimented by some very nice details to make it more than just a good looking jacket. The collar is finished with a soft, smooth padded tipping to reduce agitation on your neck and there is also a thermal neck wrap that will extend up your neck and chin. When not in use, the neck wrap tucks away nicely. You will be fully protected not only the heavy leather, but by the included CE- rated armor in the shoulders and elbows along with the EVA foam back pad. Power stretch panels on the sides and under the arms give you the mobility that you need on your bike. There is also plenty of concealed storage so you can carry everything you need.
Looking for something a little edgier for a cruiser jacket? The American Beauty combines a vintage inspired styling with a sporty American cut. That means that it will contour to your body, but will still be relaxed for a long day of riding. The chassis is built with a highly abrasion resistant AR-600 fabric with leather accent pieces. The black and orange colorway is perfect for the H-D ladies, while the Vintage black and red gives the jacket a distressed denim look. You can’t lose with either one.
You can ride confidently in the American Beauty jacket with the Vault™ CE-rated armor in the shoulders, elbows and back. This jacket can also be attached to your pants with the built in belt loops to ensure it stays in place. Lockdown waist adjusters allow you to snug up the jacket to fit just right. With the full sleeved liner removed and the speed zip ventilation open, you will get some pretty good airflow. The shoulders are gusseted for ease of movement on the bike.
Joe Rocket has always been a front runner in the world of womens motorcycle apparel. One of the reasons is that they have a solid team of female designers who know exactly what needs to go into the gear to make it work for women. The Heartbreaker 2.0 is a perfect example of their handiwork. This Joe Rocket jacket is a great combination of style, fit and function for the woman who rides a sport bike. Sport bike jackets need to stay fairly tight to the body. In the past, other manufacturers failed to make this happen, but Rocket has made the Heartbreaker 2.0 to fit the female form well. With a ton of adjustability on the multi-point SureFit™, this jacket can be personally adjusted to fit any woman’s curves.
Of course, being a sport bike jacket, the Heartbreaker 2.0 will keep you protected. There is removable CE- rated armor in the shoulders and elbows and the spine pad can be upgraded to CE armor as well. The chassis is built with Joe Rocket’s Rock Tex™ 600D fabric for abrasion resistance. While this isn’t a mesh jacket, you can still stay cool with the BigAir ventilation system, which is an up to 80 square inch panel of cooling mesh that is underneath the main zipper. There is a removable insulated vest to keep you warm on the cooler rides and an 8” zipper on the back to connect the jacket to riding pants.
The Nip Tuck II jacket is a very unique sport bike jacket. As mentioned before, one of the biggest problems that apparel manufacturers have faced is making a jacket that fits a women’s form. Scorpion has taken a unique approach to solve this problem by incorporating the side lacing adjustment system on the Nip Tuck II. It’s so easy to get a custom fit with this jacket. Simply pull the cord on the bottom of the lacing and the jacket will cinch up to your figure with no bulk of excess material. Combine the great fit with the stunning looks of the jacket and it is sure to be a winner.
All of the impact areas are made with a 600D poly for abrasion resistance, while the non-impact areas are a vented, poly mesh for good airflow. The built in liner is perforated to aid in maximum airflow as well. For slightly cooler rides, the Nip Tuck II has a removable, full-sleeve AirGuard windproof liner. You will be protected with the addition of the Sas-Tec CE- rated armor in the shoulders and elbows. Sas-Tec armor stays soft and pliable until impact, where it becomes solid. There is also a foam back pad to keep your spine safe.
If you know anything about Klim, you know that they strive to make their apparel the most technically superior on the market. The Altitude is no different. Klim has taken note from the comments of hundreds of women riders to design the ideal womans dual sport jacket, from the technical features to the best absolute fit. The jacket can be adjusted for a precise fit with the Velcro waist belt, zippered gussets on the hips forearm adjusters. Like most technical Klim gear, the Altitude is made with Gore-Tex® incorporated into the shell making it completely waterproof and breathable so you will be prepared for all riding conditions. If it gets hot, this jacket has ventilation galore with zippered vents in the front, bicep and pits with two big exhaust vents in the back.
Dual sport riding can bring about some tough riding so Klim has built the Altitude jacket with an 840D high tenacity nylon in the high abrasion zones at the elbows, shoulders, and lower rear hem. The rest of the jacket is filled in with a tough, yet pliable and breathable Misano fabric. The collar can be held open by snaps to increase the ventilation. There is D30® evo armor all around in the elbows, shoulders and back for the best protection without losing mobility. There is also a matching pant to make the Altitude a come set for dual sporting.
The Hella cut from Icon has been around for a few years now and for good reason too. It is one of the most flattering cuts on a woman’s figure by any motorcycle jacket. Previously, the Hella has been more for just sport bikes and made with textiles. Now, the Icon Hella 1000 combines that amazing cut with a more classic styling that is perfect for the lady who wants to ride in style and comfort without sacrificing any protection. The Waxed Heritage™ coated canvas chassis gives the jacket an amazing look of craftsmanship and it will only get better with age. The drum-dyed leather trims bring the look all together. This womens motorcycle jacket truly fits, flatters and functions better than most, if not all other motorcycle jackets. The Hella 1000 is available in either brown or black.
Icon did this jacket right in more ways than the fit and looks. With D3O® armor in the shoulders, elbows and back, you are fully protected from impacts on your bike. Stretch ballistic nylon panels located throughout the jacket provide great mobility and looks nice too. The Clarino lined collar and the SatinCore™ liner add to the overall comfort of the jacket. There is even a headphone cable management area to keep things in place where they belong. The Hella 1000 gives women riders everything they want and need for riding.
