Whether you use your wheeler for work or for play, your tires play an integral role in how your machine performs. The days of throwing on a pair of boogers and calling it good are over. ATV tires have evolved to meet the needs of specific machines, terrains and styles of riding. Choosing the best set of skins for your ATV or UTV can bring it to a whole new level of performance.
Finding tires that match the terrain you ride in is crucial to achieving maximum performance. If being the king of the pits is your goal, finding the best mud tires is task number one. You need a tire with tall lugs that will paddle through even the soupiest of holes, while still cleaning themselves out. For trail riding, you need skins that can hookup in both loose and compacted terrain, with side lugs to help give you the bite you need in the corners. Hard pack and rock tires should have closely spaced lugs for a smooth ride and excellent grip. And of course, nothing beats a paddle tire in the dunes.
Another factor to consider when purchasing new ATV tires is the tire construction. Riders can choose between either bias-ply or radial construction. Each has their benefits and downfalls. Bias-ply tires tend to be more durable with stiffer sidewalls. The stiff construction, though can make for a rougher ride. Radials, on the other hand, provide a very smooth and consistent ride. Radials are more susceptible to sidewall punctures, though. Choosing the right tire construction depends greatly on how and where you ride your machine.
