I have just installed the acerbis 4.1 tank. Some assembly is required.( the fuel valves have to be installed) Some parts are used from the original tank. For what ever reason, the two bolts for the rubber bushings were not included.(not shown in picture,$2.00 @ ace hardware) The instructions were adequate, and installation was really easy. I had the whole job done in 2 hours. I am satisfied with the overall quality and product application. I would reccomend this product for anyone wanting to ugrade the fuel tank for longer range .
I have installed this on my 1993 DR650. I choose this tank because it is the only choice for this bike. That being said it is a quality piece. Installation was strait forward, and the fit is good. The biggest change ( other than longer range) is the way the bike runs out of gas. The petcocks are really low. It will sputter if you try to gas it when the gas is really low. It will get you there, but will not allow full throttle. With the stock tank you would just stop.
All and all I have no buyer's remorse. Great product, and as always Dennis Kirk did a good job as a store.
Got the 6.6 for my 1995 DR650. Came with all the necessary parts for a perfect fit. Only issue I ran into was the only tubing that would fit the carb is 5/16th, the petcock on the original tank was also a 5/16", and everything for the acerbis was made for 1/4". Wound up finding a universal plastic T adapter I was able to cut and drill for 2 1/4" on the sides and a 5/16" entrance to the carb. can ride 120 miles round trip without gassing up til the morning for work everyday, its kinda nice. Only other thing I would prefer is threaded metal fittings for the screws for the petcocks & the little tube holder. All in all worth it, should be able to make it to Sequoia with only 1 gas stop now =D.
Great tank for longer distances in between fill ups. Fitment is incredibly tight , and took some serious pulling to completely bolting on. Actual tank quality is great, better trim and finish than other similar aftermarket plastic tanks. Petcock hardware is average to low quality, and fill cap is the same. Dual petcocks give you the option to use reserve on both sides of the tank, which will get me about 20-30 extra miles. Overall, very pleased.
